The Dropkick Murphys

The Dropkick Murphys were formed in Quincy, Massachusetts in 1996.  They currently have 7 albums released and 1 more on the way set to be released early January, 2013!

Their current lineup is as follows: Ken Casey playing bass guitar and contributing vocals; Matt Kelly playing drums and adding vocals; Al Barr as lead vocalist; James Lynch on vocals and guitar; Tim Brennan on guitar, mandolin, accordion and vocals; Josh Wallace on the bagpipes and tin whistle; and Jeff DaRosa on guitar, banjo, keyboard and even vocals and mandolin as well.

They provide an excellent sound comprised of hard rock elements as well as a Celtic punk/rock sound.  I recently attended one of their concerts and it was a lot of fun! They put on a great show and it was filled with people of all ages.  They have many covers of traditional Irish songs that are great renditions.  They have also created plenty of their own original work over the course of their 7 albums and 16 years.

Dropkick Concert

Not the best quality because I took these pictures and video on my phone, but here they are, live in Buffalo, New York in Sept 2012.

I took video of 3 songs, but this is definitely their most famous song.  They even performed some of the songs from their upcoming album!  They are a great mix of re-made traditional Irish classics and original songs.  Check out Dropkick if you haven’t before, but with their popularity I’m sure you have heard at least a few of their songs.

In Bruges

‘In Bruges’ is a movie from 2008.  It is kind of a mix between a comedy and a drama.  It is a dark comedy, so to speak, as it involves a couple of Irish hitmen.  The two main characters are played by Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson.  They are two Irish hitmen that are sent to Bruges by their boss to lay low after a hit goes terribly wrong.  There are plenty of funny moments in this movie….most of which come out of the mouth of Colin Farrell in his witty and off color remarks about the city of Bruges and different kinds of people.  Brendan Gleeson is, as always, hilarious in his role also.  Their interactions and friendship throughout the plot turns in the movie make it fun.

In Bruges

If you have a free night, or you just love Colin Farrell or Brendan Gleeson, check this one out! It’s definitely worth it for a few laughs.
